How We Souce Our Jewellery

Introducing

How We Source Our Antique Jewellery

At Charlotte Sayers, we believe the beauty of antique jewellery lies not only in how it looks, but in the story behind each piece. Our collection is carefully built around jewellery with character, craftsmanship and history, from Georgian and Victorian jewellery to Edwardian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces. We source each item personally, looking for jewels that feel as special today as they did when they were first made.

Where our pieces come from

Our jewellery is sourced through a trusted network of dealers, private clients, auctions, antique fairs and established contacts within the jewellery trade. We have built these relationships over many years, allowing us access to pieces from both the UK and internationally.

We are particularly drawn to jewellery with a strong sense of period and provenance. Whether it is a Georgian ring, a Victorian brooch or an Edwardian diamond jewel, we look for pieces that retain the distinctive character of the era in which they were created.

Our sourcing is deliberately selective. Rather than following trends or buying simply to fill a collection, we wait for the right pieces to come along. This means our collection is constantly evolving, with every jewel chosen for a reason.

What We Look For

Every piece is carefully inspected to understand its history and determine whether it has been altered or repaired over time. We look closely at settings, stones, metalwork and construction to identify any later additions or replacements, and to establish whether the components are original to the piece. With jewellery that may be hundreds of years old, some restoration is to be expected, but we believe it is important to understand what has changed and to be transparent about it.

Gemstones are also carefully examined by our qualified gemmologist, who assesses and identifies the stones and looks for indications of treatments or other characteristics that may be relevant. Where appropriate, particularly for important gemstones, we may also obtain an independent gemmological laboratory report.

Why Sourcing Carefully Matters

Careful sourcing allows us to offer jewellery that has already stood the test of time. Choosing antique and vintage jewellery is also a more considered approach to jewellery ownership: instead of something newly produced to follow a passing trend, you are investing in an existing piece of craftsmanship with a story of its own.

For us, this is at the heart of slow jewellery. We would rather have fewer exceptional pieces than a large collection of jewellery chosen simply for the sake of it.

Introducing

A Trusted Name in the Trade

Charlotte Sayers is built on a shared passion for antique jewellery and the expertise that comes from years spent handling, researching and sourcing historic pieces.

We take pride in offering jewellery with honesty and transparency, sharing what we know about each piece and helping our clients understand its age, craftsmanship and character. From a centuries-old Georgian jewel to a beautifully preserved Art Deco piece, every item we choose has earned its place in our collection.

Ultimately, sourcing antique jewellery is about knowing what to look for - and being patient enough to wait for something truly exceptional. For us, that is what makes discovering an antique jewel so exciting.
