A beautifully executed reverse-carved intaglio Essex crystal bee brooch, depicting a charming bumblebee with remarkable naturalism, set beneath a domed rock crystal within an 18ct gold frame. The highly skilled Essex crystal technique involved carving the reverse of a polished domed rock crystal in intaglio before hand-painting the recessed image in exquisite detail. When viewed from the front, the crystal magnifies the painting to create an extraordinary illusion of depth and realism. The result is a lifelike bumblebee that appears suspended within the crystal, as though delicately preserved beneath its surface. The rope-twist gold mount is crafted in 18ct gold.
