George III Acrostic Mourning Brooch

$3,832.00

Reference: CAX979

An exceptional and highly symbolic George III acrostic mourning brooch, finely crafted in engraved bi-coloured gold. The design centres on a stylised pineapple flanked by naturalistic oak leaves, emblematic of hospitality, strength and endurance. With delicate scrollwork and foliate detailing, highlighted with seed pearls and cabochon turquoises. Featuring a foliate banner set with a carefully arranged sequence of gemstones — pearl, emerald, amethyst, citrine and emerald — forming the acrostic “PEACE.” This poignant message reflects the historical moment of 1814, marking the end of the Napoleonic Wars and the restoration of peace in Europe. The reverse is engraved “WATTERS 1 July 1814,”. A rare and evocative piece.
