Tiffany Pearl Necklace

A vintage eight row Tiffany Akoya pearl necklace with an 18ct oval clasp. This stunning necklace is designed to be worn either loose or twisted. Akoya cultured pearls were perfected by Mikimoto in the early 20th century by seeding a small piece of Mother of Pearl into an Akoya oyster. They became a staple of American jewellery by the mid 20th century and were popularised by Coco Chanel. They are a type of saltwater cultured pearl known for their high level of lustre. The clasp is slightly dished on both sides in the signature tiffany way, and the tongue is marked "Tiffany & Co 18K 750" with an encircled C for copyright.
The clasp measures: 2cm x 1.8cm with a safety clip.
The pearls are 42 cm long.
