A George III diamond and amethyst 'witch's heart' brooch with a two finely woven hairwork glazed compartments in a twin heart design surmounted with stylised diamond crown, the amethyst heart with gold pin fitting and gold closed-back setting.
The ‘witch’s heart’ is distinguished by a heart with a pronounced tip curving to one side, was a popular Georgian love token, thought to protect the wearer from enchantment while signifying that the giver’s heart had been ‘bewitched’ by the beloved.
