Sir Robert Peel (1788–1850) was a British statesman who served twice as Prime Minister and is best remembered for founding the modern police force, earning his officers the nickname "Bobbies" or "Peelers." A member of the Conservative Party, he played a key role in shaping 19th-century British politics by introducing important reforms, including the repeal of the Corn Laws, which lowered food prices but split his party. Peel also modernised the criminal law and strengthened economic policy, leaving a lasting impact on both governance and public order in Britain.
