A French Victorian-era butterfly brooch beautifully crafted from jet. French jet was a welcome variation into the mourning dress lexicon as it added a bit of sparkle to the drab darkness of the black attire which was compulsory during the mourning period after a family death. Unlike Whitby jet French jet is actually glass. Circa 1870

Measurements: 5.2cm x 5.5cm
