Georgian chalcedony and gem set Maltese cross pendant. The cross has chalcedony arms inset to a floral and cannetille 18ct gold mount, around an elongated cushion-cut rhodolite garnet, highlighted with circular-cut emeralds, to a square agate cabochon at the verso. The Maltese cross was known as the Cross of the Knights of St. John and was given to individuals who had demonstrated acts of “valour and rescue”. This symbol of heroism incited a fashion trend.
