A very pretty early Victorian 18ct gold and silver giardinetti brooch designed to resemble a basket of flowers with rose cut diamonds, demantoid garnets and rubies. The term giardinetti comes from the Italian for "little gardens" and was used to describe jewellery from the beginning of the 18th century that resembled flowers. In brooches, these are often arranged in vases, urns or baskets. They are cleverly designed in intricate openwork settings to imitate a naturalistic arrangement in beautiful gems. Circa 1840-50

Measurements: 3.3cm x 2.7cm.

These brooches were so popular in the Victorian Era
