18th Century Rose Cut Diamond Flemish Heart Pendant

An 18th-century Flemish silver diamond heart pendant, dating to circa 1780–1800. This beautifully crafted piece is set with foil-backed rose-cut diamonds in silver, with subtle gilded detailing and a gold backing—hallmarks of fine Continental craftsmanship of the period. This pendant takes the form of the traditional Flemish heart, or "Vlaams hart", a cherished symbol in 18th- and 19th-century Flemish culture. Deeply rooted in religious devotion, particularly to the Virgin Mary, these pendants were often given on Mother’s Day as tokens of love and reverence in her honour. The surmount is especially rich in symbolism, featuring “love trophies”—two diamond-set quivers of arrows flanking a delicate bow—representing affection, fidelity, and maternal love.
