Georgian Foil Backed Citrine Rivière

A striking Georgian graduated citrine rivière, circa 1800–1810, foil-backed and set in silver and 9ct gold. In the Georgian era, rivières were highly fashionable, their continuous line of gemstones designed to shimmer by candlelight and encircle the neck like a river of colour. This rare survivor remains in very good condition for its age; the aged foiling now gives the citrines an almost two-tone appearance that enhances their charm. There is a small chip to one stone, but otherwise the citrines are in good condition.
The rivière is 38.5cm long and the central citrine is approximately 14.7mm x 13.9mm.
