An engraved posy ring, circa 1760, decorated with acanthus leaves, thistle, and rose motifs, inscribed “Love God better than gold.” Maker’s mark: a Gothic “TB.” Poesy rings, popular from the medieval period through the eighteenth century, were exchanged as tokens of love, fidelity, or religious devotion, their inscriptions often drawn from contemporary verse, scripture, or moral sentiment. By the mid-eighteenth century, such rings combined personal symbolism with refined ornamental engraving, reflecting both sentimental culture and the craftsmanship of Georgian goldsmiths.
