Stuart Crystal Ring

A rare and evocative Stuart crystal mourning ring, circa 1700, set with an octagonal step-cut rock crystal in a closed, foil-backed gold setting. Beneath the crystal lies an intricately worked arrangement of woven hair and fine gold wirework, beautifully preserved and visible through the faceted stone. A wonderful survivor from the late 17th or early 18th century and a fascinating example of Stuart mourning jewellery, in which hair was incorporated as a deeply personal remembrance of the deceased.
