Victorian Compass Swivel Fob

An unusual Victorian 18ct gold-mounted swivel fob with a compass on one side and an agate hardstone on the other side that is engraved with a lion sejant (sitting) holding a gothic styled cross with the motto "Semper Fidelis" inscribed beneath his paws. “Semper Fidelis” is a Latin phrase that means “always faithful” or “always loyal”. This fob is hallmarked Birmingham 1887, with makers mark WHH. There are minor dents that are consummate with age on the outer rim.
