Victorian Dendritic Agate Ring

A classic and depictive ring from the Victorian era featuring dendritic agate in a 18ct gold oval. With realistic depictions of ferns and moss in a rub over setting, circa 1850. The bifurcated shank on this piece has a horizontal double band decoration that sits either side of the finger.
The name dendritic agate coms from the Ancient Greek word déndron, which means "tree". It is a type of quartz with a milky, opaque background, with crystal inclusions of iron oxide and manganese that form tree and branch like patterns in the stone. It has been used throughout history and is known to symbolise protection and prosperity.
The head of the ring measures 2.15mm from north to south. Ring size J1/2
