Victorian Scarab Ring

An unusual and finely crafted Victorian scarab ring, circa 1860, set in rich 18ct gold. The ring features a sculptural scarab with a gold head and an engraved green hardstone body, flanked by finely modelled papyrus-form shoulders inspired by ancient Egyptian motifs. An eagle poinçon to the reverse of the shank denotes 18ct gold, while the underside of the scarab head is engraved with the initials “CW.” This distinctive ring beautifully exemplifies the Victorian fascination with archaeology and the Etruscan Revival style. A small chip is visible to the lower edge of the green stone scarab, consistent with age and wear.
The head of the ring measures 1.4cm north to south.
