An sweet late 19th/early 20th century Child & Child silver, enamel and pink topaz snake pendant, marked on the back with a sunflower and C&C. Child and Child were an English jewellery firm known for its enamel and Art Nouveau jewellery. It was started by two brothers, Walter and Harold Child. The company opened its shop in Knightsbridge in 1880 and began making their enamel pieces in 1891. Their jewellery used bright greens, turquoise and blue enamels and frequently featured motifs such as wings, leaves, hearts, feathers and butterflies, sometimes inset with gemstones. Their patrons included William Holman Hunt, Sir Edward Burne-Jones, Edwin Lutyens as well as members of the Royal Family. The Royal Warrant was granted to Harold after the brothers ended their partnership but the firm ended with his death in 1915. Child and Child jewellery is made in silver and has an unofficial trademark of a sunflower between two Cs.
