Gold & Lapis Braclet

€9.082,95

Reference: CB415

A striking and highly wearable late Victorian coiled bracelet, crafted in 18ct gold and terminating with polished lapis lazuli finials, circa 1870. Formed as a flexible sprung gold coil with a finely textured woven surface, the bracelet wraps elegantly around the wrist.

The bracelet is stamped "Breveté LION S.G.D.G.", indicating that the design was protected by a French patent. Breveté translates as "patented", while S.G.D.G. (Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement) was a legally required French patent mark used between 1844 and 1968, signifying that the invention was patented without state guarantee or endorsement. This mark is frequently encountered on innovative and mechanically ingenious French jewellery of the nineteenth century.

Although not bearing a French assay mark, the bracelet was almost certainly made in France. The clever sprung construction allows the bracelet to expand and contract comfortably, making it suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes.
