17th Century Garnet and Rose Cut Diamond Ring

$18,447.00

Reference: CA9350

This late 17th-century garnet and rose-cut diamond ring, dating from circa 1680-1690, is a fine example of the craftsmanship and design of the late Baroque era. Featuring rich garnets paired with delicate rose-cut diamonds, the ring is set in a gold band with intricate enamel work in pink, white, and black on the back. The contrast of the vibrant garnets and the soft sparkle of the diamonds creates a striking visual effect, while the enamel detailing adds an extra layer of artistry and elegance.

During this period, garnets were valued for their deep colour and believed to symbolise protection and loyalty, while rose-cut diamonds, popular at the time, enhanced the stone’s natural brilliance. Enamel was commonly used in jewellery to add vibrant designs, and the bold colors here reflect the ornamental style of the late 17th century.
