A lively and substantial Georgian paste and silver cross, dating to circa 1800–1820. This beautifully proportioned piece features foil-backed paste stones, expertly cut and set to catch the light with remarkable brilliance, arranged in oval sections radiating from a central cluster. Paste, a form of leaded glass crafted to imitate the sparkle of diamonds and other precious gems, was highly prized in the Georgian era, not as a substitute, but as an art form in its own right. Skilled jewellers used hand-cut stones, often with foil backing, to create dazzling effects under candlelight, allowing fashionable wearers to enjoy statement jewellery both day and night.
