Victorian Acrostic Heart Pendant

A rare and highly romantic early Victorian acrostic heart pendant in 18ct gold, dating to circa 1830–1840, beautifully crafted in the sentimental style so beloved during the period. The heart-shaped pendant is set around the border with a ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby and diamond, spelling the word “REGARD” in the traditional acrostic manner - a hidden declaration of affection expressed through gemstones. At the centre sits a detailed emerald-set pansy motif with a diamond highlight, the pansy symbolising remembrance and enduring love in the language of flowers. The gold is adorned with intricate cannetille work, delicate scrolls and fine hand engraving. The reverse contains a glazed locket compartment.
