A superb enamel skeleton ring set in fine 18ct gold, the black enamel skeleton running around the circumference with the hour glass, grave digger tools and cross bones, inscribed inside the shank "Chas Wheatly MA ob 13 May 1742 aet 57" maker TG.


Charles Wheatly 1686-1742 was a BA, fellow and MA of St John's College Oxford and vicar of Brent and Furneaux Pelham, Hertfordshire. He was a scholar and published numerous doctrinal and devotional works including "Wheatly On the Common Prayer" a copy dated 1840 which is sold with this ring.
