* Reserved * This is a very unusual and rare Victorian harlequin rivière necklace crafted in 15ct gold and set with open backed oval mixed cut coloured paste stones in gold collet settings. The rivière style is defined by a continuous line of stones flowing around the neckline.
The necklace takes its name from the harlequin arrangement of stones, displaying a joyful mix of colours including deep red, green, blue, orange, pink, and purple. Each stone sits neatly beside the next. As a rare survivor, this necklace reflects the Victorian taste for colour and variety, as well as the period’s appreciation for both fine materials and high quality paste jewellery. It would have been worn as a statement piece, admired for its bold use of colour and refined execution. Circa 1850-60
