The snake’s body forms three elegant loops, pavé-set with old mine cut diamonds totaling approximately 3.5 carats. The diamonds are bright and lively, graded H color with VS to SI clarity. The snake’s head is set with vivid green cabochon emerald eyes. From its mouth, the serpent suspends a pear-shaped diamond drop of approximately 0.35 carats, adding movement to the design. The brooch is mounted in silver over gold, a typical Victorian technique, where silver was used on the front to enhance the diamonds’ whiteness, while gold provided strength and structure to the backing.
