Georgian Metal Compass

A fine Georgian gilt metal pocket compass, dating from the early 19th century. The compass features a white enamel dial clearly marked with cardinal and intercardinal directions, accented by elegant blued steel hands and a traditional fleur-de-lis denoting north. The instrument is housed in its original turned wooden case with a hinged lid. Inside, a handwritten period label reads “Gilt Compass without Stop No. 2. Circa 1800.
