Victorian 15ct Gold Guard Chain

A 15ct rope link guard chain with an engraved oval slide and dog clip circa 1870. Guard chains were originally designed for practical purposes. They were long enough to loop around the neck while holding items like watches, glasses, or chatelaines at the end using a clasp such as a dog clip. These chains allowed wearers to keep important objects close at hand.

The chain is142cm long, 4mm wide and the oval slide is 2cm x 1cm at the widest point. The dog clip is 2.5cm long.
