Victorian Gold Drop Earrings

: Early Victorian fine 18ct gold drop earrings, possibly Continental, circa 1840, boxed. These earrings although very long at 8.5cm excluding the wires are wonderfully light on the ear due to the pierced star and diamond work in the gold. They weigh just 5.3 grams each and the width at the widest point is 1.3cm. Each earring is faceted to catch the light as they swing, the lantern like balls at the bottom of the earrings move separately to the tops. The fittings at the top of the earrings are possibly later as I would expect these earrings to have back to front fittings but they have shepherds hooks that close behind a hook which is a typical European earring fitting. These are real showstoppers.
