Victorian Shakudo necklace set in 18ct fine gold, the five roundels depicting owls and storks to a fine trace link double chain and rectangular clasp studded with gold circles. Circa 1870
This Japanese metal work was introduced into the West in the Victorian period and became very popular. Originally used as decoration for Japanese sword hilts and ojime it is a mixture of copper and gold and creates an almost lacquer-like effect.
Each roundel is 2.5cm in diameter and the necklace is 42cm long
