Georgian Seed Pearl Choker with Navette Enamel Clasp

A wonderful Georgian seed pearl choker, dating to around 1780, composed of eleven double rows of twisted natural seed pearls. At the centre is a beautifully detailed navette-shaped clasp, decorated with a border of seed pearls surrounding a deep blue enamel panel. The enamel is finely painted with a pair of lovebirds perched upon a plinth, beneath a pearl garland surmounted by a bow - a romantic motif symbolising affection and devotion, much favoured in Georgian jewellery. The delicate strands of natural seed pearls gather gracefully into the clasp, forming an elegant and substantial choker typical of late 18th-century fashion.
The clasp measures 4cm x 2.5cm. The inner length of choker measures 32.5cm
