Georgian black enamel mourning band, 1.1cms wide inscribed to the outside “In Memory Of” to chased sides and the interior inscribed “James Watt died 25 Aug 1819 aged 83”, makers mark JG and partial London hallmark

Finger size N 1/2 or 6 3/4

James Watt (1736-1819) was an inventor and engineer especially noted for the Watt’s steam engine which he invented with Matthew Boulton. A major contribution to the Industrial Revolution and used to drive textile factories, cotton and paper mills, canals, distilleries and waterworks. Even driving an early version of the steam locomotive.
