Memorial ring for Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805. This is one of the 58 rings made by John Salter of the Strand to commemorate Nelson’s death.

The bezel is enamelled in black with the letters NB for Nelson Bronte. The N is surmounted by a viscount’s coronet which was an appointment made after his victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798 and the B is surmounted by a ducal coronet representing the Sicilian dukedom of Bronte which was conferred by Ferdinand IV of the Two Sicilies in 1779.

Underneath in gold letters “Trafalgar”. The outer hoop is engraved “Palman Qui Meruit Ferat” (Let him bear the palm of victory who has won it). Under the bezel is the inscription “Lost to his Country 21 Oct 1805 Aged 47”. This example is in excellent original condition. The box is not the original.
