Rock Crystal Gold Locket

This elegant Victorian "pool of light" rock crystal orb locket is ingeniously crafted from two hollowed, half-moon shaped rock crystal segments joined at the centre with an 18ct gold band to form a perfect globe. Circa 1870-1880.
Rock crystal orbs were highly sought after during the late Victorian period for their captivating optical properties. When placed against a surface, these crystals create a fascinating refractive effect—light entering the orb becomes both diffused and focused, creating a luminous "pool of light" on adjacent surfaces. The locket's design is particularly clever: when opened, the hollow crystal chambers act as natural magnifiers for whatever memento is placed within.
The locket measures 2.2cm in diameter.
