This elegant piece features a continuous line of beautifully matched, rectangular lilac amethysts, each bezel-set in warm gilt metal. Rivières, named after the French word for "river," were highly fashionable in the 18th and 19th centuries, known for their fluid, gemstone-set designs that flowed gracefully around the neck. Worn by both royalty and the fashionable elite, these necklaces were prized for their elegance and simplicity, showcasing the beauty of each individual stone. This example, with its soft lilac tones and classic form, is both timeless and effortlessly wearable. The necklace measures 44cm in length and fastens with a concealed box clasp, also set with an amethyst.
